Job Summary:
The Underwood Law Firm librarian manages the overall operation of the firm’s library and its resources, including collection development, automated research systems, cataloging and classification systems, and technical services. This position also provides reference and research services to attorneys, legal assistants, and staff in all offices of the Underwood Law Firm as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides research support to attorneys, legal assistants, and staff through an appropriate combination of traditional resources and emerging technologies.
- Provides in-depth as well as quick reference research services as appropriate to attorneys, legal assistants, and staff, utilizing both electronic and print resources.
- Evaluates space and equipment needs of the Underwood Law Firm library and makes recommendations.
- Participates in long-range planning for firm wide information resources.
- Stays current on research technologies by keeping up with professional literature and attending professional library association meetings.
- Performs all library duties including acquisitions, collection development, and technical processing.
- Manages library materials budget.
- Maintains vendor relations.
- Negotiates print and electronic subscriptions.
- Attends Administrative Team meetings.
- Bills for time as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in legal and corporate research techniques using both print and electronic resources.
- Ability to evaluate websites and electronic research resources from substantive and technical perspectives.
